Virtual coffee with the AIJA President #12

19 June 2020 15:00 - 15:30 CEST

In June, as part of our association’s commitment to Diversity this year, join AIJA President Paola Fudakowska for a series of virtual coffees with inspirational women who will share interesting stories from their careers in frontline journalism, diplomacy, medicine and law.

AIJA members, colleagues, friends and families are invited to join and engage in a interactive discussion about women in leadership across a variety of professions.

This week, Paola has invited Philippa Youd, a Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine.

Join us on Friday 19 June at 15:00 Brussels time, 14:00 London time, 9:00 NYC time , 21:00 Hong Kong time.

Philippa has been a Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust in south-west London since 2010 which, along with most London hospitals, has been at the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After graduating in Medicine from Leeds University, she undertook a postgraduate Masters degree in Medical Education which focused on a training tool for colonic polyp detection. She developed this tool during an Endoscopy Fellowship at St Marks Hospital, Northwick Park, while leading the UK branch of a Multicentre trial into a procedure for acid reflux.

Philippa has a particular interest in teaching and mentoring; she oversees the training of junior doctors and undergraduates within her department and volunteers as a mentor for the British Society of Gastroenterology.

With the charity Hope Health Action, Philippa undertook emergency medical relief work in Haiti in 2010 following the devastating earthquake and again in 2011 with Samaritan's Purse during the cholera outbreak.

Outside work, Philippa plays in a local orchestra, has fulfilled recent ambitions to complete the London Marathon and Surrey 100 Bike Ride and enjoys helping with the church youth group.
