Tackling climate change: a discussion of emissions trading systems in Europe and LATAM
02 December 2021 17:00 - 18:30 CET
Emissions Trading Systems (ETS) have been implemented for more than 15 years around the world, being the European system the earliest and largest of its kind. The Paris Agreement has enhanced the implementation of ETS across the globe, especially in developing countries, as one of the most effective tools available to tackle greenhouse gas emissions.
In this session we will analyse key insights of the implementation of this system in a well-known and mature market: Germany. While, on the other hand, we’ll take a look on the pilot program of the first mandatory ETS in Mexico (the largest CO2 emitter in Latin America), and discuss what lessons can be learned prior to its entry into force, by 2023.
