Le comité organisateur de la Conférence semestrielle du printemps 2017 a le très grand plaisir de vous inviter à Riga, une ville captivante et méconnue qui offre aux visiteurs un mélange fascinant de traditions variées, grâce à une situation qui lui a permis, au fil de l’histoire et jusqu’à ce jour, d’être un pont entre les cultures.
Capitale de la Lettonie, Riga est une cité moderne qui a réussi à conserver ses racines historiques et à rester « verte» ; propre et sûre, la ville devient une destination de plus en plus appréciée et s’est fait une réputation de joyau caché.
Alors qu’elle est facilement accessible, la ville reste encore relativement méconnue. Riga est un véritable bijou: une Vieille Ville qui combine histoire et animation, de nombreux parcs, la nouvelle Bibliothèque nationale et le Musée national des Beaux-Arts – le tout accessible à pied depuis le site prévu de la Conférence.
La Vieille Ville, avec son paysage urbain enchanteur qui marie modernité et moyen-âge, une architecture qui reflète les goûts et les cultures d’un millénaire d’influences étrangères, des proportions raisonnablement equilibrées entre la monotonie et l’impressionnant, et d’innombrables bars et restaurants, a énormément à offrir aux visiteurs en quête d’inspiration. La Vieille Ville, où se situent le lieu et l’hôtel de la Conférence, est facilement accessible depuis l’aéroport international de Riga, qui n’est qu’à 10 km du centre-ville.
Et le programme social est tout simplement magnifique ! Il y a tant de lieux d’excellence à visiter que choisir les meilleurs n’a pas été facile ; mais une magnifique variété d’endroits – terrasse sur le toit, restaurant le plus renommé proche de la mer Baltique et lieu magique pour le dîner de gala – ont été choisis et réservés. Enfin, une expérience à ne pas manquer, le dîner « home-hospitality », une des plus belles traditions de l’AIJA : des juristes ouvrent leur maison aux délégués pour leur faire apprécier une véritable hospitalité.

In this short workshop, we will briefly discuss style – the most common problem in legal writing. Using samples from practice, participants will learn how to transform their style from “legalese” to plain English in two steps: (1) cut words/syllables and (2) simplify sentences.
