Sustainability plays a pivotal role throughout society, and ESG-related issues are increasingly influencing the agendas of policy makers, regulators, asset managers, banks, insurance companies, boards of directors, advisors and activists.

Therefore, we are kicking off 2021 with an afternoon devoted to learn about greener, more diverse and transparent Corporate and M&A practices. 

We will virtually gather to discuss how ESG is impacting the Corporate and M&A activities of our clients and firms as well as how you can prepare for the new sustainability's challenges and opportunities.

The event includes 4 knowledge-driven sessions, featuring a keynote, and a social event at the end of the day.

Interview with Professor Beate Sjåfjell, specialist in company law and corporate governance
Beate Sjåfjell is Professor at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Law, Adjunct Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Faculty of Economics and Management, and the head of the Oslo Faculty’s Research Group Companies, Markets and Sustainability.

Her publications include the edited volumes The Cambridge Handbook of Corporate Law, Corporate Governance and Sustainability (Cambridge University Press, 2019, co-editor Christopher M. Bruner), Creating Corporate Sustainability, Gender as an Agent for Change (Cambridge University Press, 2018, co-editor: Irene Lynch Fannon), and Company Law and Sustainability: Legal Barriers and Opportunities (Cambridge University Press, 2015, co-editor: Benjamin Richardson). This session will consider the role of ESG in times of COVID-19, ESG due diligence, and its big players such as institutional investors, private equity funds, and the rise of shareholders’ activism. The impact on transaction documents will also be discussed as well as the matter of sustainable finance for sustainable deals.

Then, a debate on shareholders vs. stakeholders and their impact in the boardroom regarding D&I practices will follow.

Please note that any arrangements related to the participation of the participant in an AIJA event, including but not limited to booking or cancellation of accommodation or flights, as well as respecting the cancellation deadlines indicated in the general terms and conditions, are the sole responsibility of the participant. AIJA shall not be held liable for any expenses the participant may suffer as the result of participant’s failure to comply with his/her obligations.

It is recommended for each participant to purchase a cancellation and travel insurance.

Please note that in-house counsel registrations are subject to review and confirmation by AIJA. AIJA considers in-house counsel professionals who hold a university degree in law allowing access to a bar association and practicing law as an in-house counsel in private, public, or non-profit companies, institutions or organisations. Please note that in-house counsel who are at the same time active as fee-earning lawyers or consultants are not eligible to the discounted in-house counsel fee.

Data relating to your participation in the event shall be stored for a period of 10 years. We are obliged to archive billing data until the end of the period required for our tax and accounting obligations, i.e. for 7 full tax years.
