Event Overview

Distressed M&A – the good, the bad and the ugly

AIJA is proud to invite you to its Winter Seminar 2024, jointly organised by the Corporate and M&A and Insolvency Commissions. This exceptional event aims to foster insightful discussions on the captivating subject of distressed M&A – which has become even more relevant in recent years.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the magnificent Alpe d'Huez, this seminar offers a unique platform to engage in a comprehensive exploration of how insolvency law profoundly impacts live deals and how to achieve the best possible outcomes in such scenarios.

The academic programme of the seminar has been meticulously crafted to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the intricate relationship between insolvency law and M&A transactions. Through a series of engaging sessions, esteemed speakers will delve deep into the mechanisms required to ensure the successful completion of distressed deals. Participants will also gain valuable insights into the strategic approaches and practical techniques employed to salvage value post-transaction and rebuild corporate reputation. To enhance the practical application of knowledge, the seminar will also feature technical sessions designed to assist practitioners from both the M&A and Insolvency spheres to gain a better understanding of the work which other practitioners undertake as a part of the process (e.g. financial advisors). The seminar will finally endeavour to provide a discussion on a recent case from the view of both insolvency and M&A practitioners.

This year’s winter seminar location, Alpe d’Huez, is famous not only as an iconic stop of the Tour de France, but also for the world’s longest black slope (La Sarenne) and one of the most daunting ones (Le Tunnel). Non-skiers will leave the village overlooked by the 3330m Pic Blanc for exciting alternative activities in the surrounding French Alps, before all participants get back together for some après-ski and indulging French mountain cuisine together with the resort’s nightlife.

In both cases, feel free to team up with your preferred AIJA friends, for cost and environmental efficiency!

From Grenoble or Geneva, buses can be a less pricey alternative:
