Who we are
SCILL stands for Skills, Career, Innovation, Leadership and Learning. The SCILL commission deals with the development of the legal profession and aims to be the centre of skills and career training within AIJA. Members of our commission include practitioners from across the profession and are from a number of jurisdictions.
Our commission primarily focuses on ensuring the professional and personal development of the AIJA members. SCILL's ultimate goal is to help members to become better in what they do both as lawyers and as AIJA members: be more efficient, more successful and more balanced. The 3 pillars of SCILL are: a) providing a pool of trainers and coaches offering one-to-one free coaching at the main AIJA events; b) providing distant online tools, webinars, collaboration tools etc. for members during the year; and c) offering practical trainings and workshops throughout the year during the various AIJA events. Trainings and workshops cover a variety of topics such as leadership, diversity, public speaking, client acquisition and retention, negotiation, legal project management and legal drafting.
SCILL organises sessions in conjunction with other AIJA commissions throughout the year. During AIJA's flagship events (i.e. the Half-Year Conference and Annual Congress) our commission generally organises practical trainings and workshops. During double or triple seminars we can do the same as a separate track or joint session.
Apart from the AIJA events, SCILL also cooperates with other institutions or associations having similar interests, therefore ensuring our members are actively involved in all initiatives that might help them grow as lawyers and persons.
